Bing Ads Launches 70 Action Extension

Bing Ads Launches 70 Action Extension

by Wanda Moore April 12, 2019

Bing Ads introduced 70 extension extensions in these hours with an interesting new feature that allows advertisers around the world to use call to action buttons in text ads.

A real revolution available, as we said, worldwide and translated into all supported languages.

The tests found that the new call-to-action helped advertisers a lot, so that the results obtained saw an average increase of 20% in the click-through rate .

That is why after this first test phase Bing Ads was made available worldwide and the action extensions immediately found fertile ground in shopping and travel announcements .

  • Clicks on action extensions will be charged with the same cost-per-click as clicks on the ad title.
  • Action extensions can be shown with other advertising extensions, including sitelinks .
  • Action extensions can be associated at the account, campaign or ad group level, where the lowest level takes precedence. There is a limit of 20 associations per level.
  • The URL fields are all optional.
  • You can create action extensions via online Bing Ads, bulk account management tool and APIs.

But more importantly, as shown in the screenshot above, the action extensions are available in all Bing Ads markets for both the desktop and mobile versions.

How Bing’s Ads action extensions work

From the Ad Extension tab of each account, the action extension option will appear at the top of the drop-down list of available extensions. If you don’t see the option yet, it’s only a matter of hours.

To add a new action extension , in the lower part of the window, click on “create action extension” and select the “Add new” option. This will activate the configuration window.

So here we can finally, among the 70 predefined call-to-actions,  choose the default Action Text we want. There is also a search box, useful for speeding up the selection process.

At this point we can choose to leave the final URL and / or mobile URL fields blank or set a separate landing page only for the action extension. Interesting is the possibility to add monitoring parameters in the URL options section to acquire additional information from clicks.

Another very interesting aspect is planning. Action extensions can be programmed to show them on specific days and hours. This allows you to make further choices, such as showing different action extensions during the hours in which the activity is open compared to others in which the activity is closed.

Finally we can create associations at the account level,  ie we can associate the action extensions at the account, campaign or ad group level. The lower level takes precedence, so if you have an action extension set at the campaign and ad group level, the ad group extension will appear.
